De Mévius on top at mid day

In true Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy style, competition got underway in dusty and dramatic fashion here at Rally de España.

At the mid way point on day two and the fifth round of the Fiesta Trophy, Ghislain de Mevius is at the top of the overall rankings and leads Marius Aasen by 16.8sec, with Tom Cave following a further 15.7sec back.

The top spot has been held by four different drivers since racing got underway in Barcelona last night in front of thousands of spectators. New comer Brendan Reeves of Australia took the first stage, but due to his late arrival in the season, he won’t be scoring points during the competition. This meant that the second fastest driver, Mats van den Brand of Holland, would take the scratch points.

Of the remaining four fastest stage points available so far, British driver Cave took three and Aasen claimed the remaining.

Max Vatanen suffered from technical issues early on in SS3 and in the dusty conditions, Cave was caught in the debris and fell over 40sec off the pace. Vatanen continued to have issues throughout the afternoon and currently sits in eighth overall, over 15 minutes off the lead.

Mats van den Brand went off the road at the end of Caseres (SS3) and had to be recovered. Only after official inspection will we know if he can continue in the morning.
